Choosing the right paddle

 

Typhoon8 paddles are top quality sport equipment manufactured to the specifications of IDBF 202a.  All paddles bear the certification from IDBF and come in standard length from 46” to 51”.  However we could custom cut it to your specified length. It is important to choose a paddle that suits your height and personal preference, and within the length approved by the international standards.  IDBF specifies that paddles must have a minimum length of 105cm/41”, and a maximum length of 130cm/51”. When deciding on what length of paddle that suits you, there are a number of factors to consider.

1. Body height and arm’s length; obviously if you have a longer arm you would need a longer paddle and visa versa.

2. Water condition; whether you paddle in rough or calm water condition.  Generally speaking, if you regularly paddle in rough condition a shorter paddle length may be desirable.

3. Position where you paddle in the boat; if you sit in a particular bench in the boat you may select a paddle length that is consistent with the water height at that position.
In all circumstances, it is best to ask your coach for advice on the best paddle length for your needs.

A good way of deciding what is best for you is to try different lengths and ask your coach to evaluate your stroke before you settle on a size.  Always remember if you selected a longer size you could always have it shortened, but you could not have it lengthen. If you keep your paddle in good shape, we would be happy to exchange it if you selected the wrong size providing there is no visible wear or damage to it.
